Bruckner played a teenager for the film Blue Car (2002). She played a girl who had an affair with her teacher David Strathairn. Roger Ebert, a film critic, said Bruckner did a fantastic job in this difficult script without hesitation. Bruckner was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for "Best female lead" for her performance in the film. She grew up with three siblings - with two sisters and a brother. Hungarian was her first language and she practiced it regularly in order to improve her language skills. Bruckner is a Hollywood California native born to the Hungarian as well as a Russian father who had divorced from their mother in the past, was a child of an German maternal grandparent. She is the daughter of Hungarian parents who met in Hungary. The family immigrated to U.S.A. through an Italian refugee camp in 1984. She has a sister and a brother.
